Proteins are remarkable molecular machines that carry out essential processes in cells. From synthesizing sugars, repairing DNA, facilitating communication between cells, and even recognizing pathogens, these versatile structures perform an astonishing variety of tasks. By combining just 20 amino acids in countless sequences, cells create proteins with diverse and highly specialized functions. I am fascinated by the relationship between protein sequence and function and am eager to explore the mechanisms that underlie the workings of these tiny machines.
